“Irresponsible Gay Filmmaking” – or – is John-Manuel Andriote just an old fart?

John-Manuel Andriote has taken his old fart views to an op-ed piece in the Huffington Post regarding mandatory condom use in porn entitled Porn Flicks or Virtual Coliseum? Risking Actors’ Lives for Sport

His biggest piece of evidence to support his views?

Dawson’s 20 Load Weekend which he refers to as “irresponsible gay filmmaking.”

You old scalawag John-Manuel Andriote you.

Really? – the best you could do in writing about condom use in porn in 2012 is a movie I made 6 years ago and a meeting that took place in 2005???

You are just like those old ACT-UP activists who have nothing to do with their free time.  Now that the AIDS crisis is over so is the career that you manufactured writing about it.

Ah the inexplicable power of gay porn to force gay men to do things beyond their control.

As if there were no such thing as Free will.  Free action.  Free speech.  I don’t recall Dawson’s 20 Load Weekend as being responsible for any spike in HIV infection.

Mr. Andriote – might I suggest a hobby for all your free time – like perhaps –i dunno – knitting?

That might help you to keep your pecker out of my porn – or your mouth off of Michael Weinstein’s butthole.

…and Check out my new movie RETURN TO MEAT RACK where I continue my irresponsible depiction of hot gay man having hot gay bareback sex dropping hot loads of jizz into each other’s tight pink holes…  all of whom I apparently coerced into the activities depicted by offering them more money to fuck with out rubbers as opposed to – they are men who fuck without fear AND without condoms.

If you want to read into it that they are infecting each other with HIV then that is your warped issue.

Alas, the eye of the beholder breeds hypocrisy.

    haha! lol. nice retort.

  2. Seaguy says:

People like him think that all porn stars who do bareback are idiots who do not know what they are getting into, and people like him seem to forget what this county is a free country! Where if I want to get fucked bareback in a porno I should be able to do so without the government telling me I can’t because I am not smart enough to know the risks and accept them. That is not the case the actors are not stupid, they know the risks and have accepted them.

Like the failed war on drugs forcing porn to use condoms will not work!

I agree you cant pass a law that outlaws a behavior. I dont BB, it turms me off, but thats JUST ME, if some one else likes it OK..although i ALWAYS used condoms in my life I made a choide a few years ago not to fuck anymore because i’m terrified of getting aids and couldn’t deal with getting tested (i’d be a MESS waiting) I do miss it and my porn usage has gone WAY up too LOL. but again this is just what works for ME. you can’t legislate behaviors. one thing i DO NOT understand are the comments i’ve read on the TIM site that “the AIDS crisis is over”??? HUH? what do you mean? i know 2 guys that just got it ..please explain??

    • Max Sohl says:

2 guys got AIDS or 2 guys found out they are HIV+?
People who are HIV+ do NOT have AIDS contrary to the Law and Order franchise.

      • johnn says:

became hiv + they have both began meds, the ones is shitting his brains all hours of the day, the other one is sick from the meds i guess they can do a job on your system. i have friends that have been poz for several years two of them have this facial wasting thing…. i mean again if you want to bb ok its your life, i just dont understand the idea thats its not a big deal anymore it sure looks nasty enough for me. life long doc trips worrying about $ for care ..

  4. max (not max) says:

the aids crisis is over? really? when did that happen? its not over until this dreadful disease is eradicated. stop being such an idiot max sohl!

    • Max Sohl says:

Yes, the AIDS crisis is over.
Living with HIV is now a manageable disease no worse than having diabetes.
Guys like this dude who made a lecherous career in the 90s on the back of the actual AIDS crisis now don’t know what to do with themselves.

If there was an actual AIDS crisis would the CEO of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation have so much time on his hands to devote to the issue of condom use in porn? –
Time that could be spent lobbying the pharmaceutical companies to lower the price of HIV treatment drugs to make it affordable to everyone?

      Yes, the AIDS crisis over.

      Follow the money.

      • johnn says:

yes theres meds …but why would you want to be doctoring and taking harsh meds the rest of your life? no worse than diabetes? why would anyone complicate their life like this if you didnt need too? *SIGH* i hope i’m not pissing you off by now lol…i’m not trying to really..i get that everyones sex is different for them it just seems that this could be such a drag on your life in the long run. making porn huh? mmmmm;-0)

  7. Puppy says:

Yeah, how irresponsible that consenting adults go through an interview process, have their ID’s checked to verify their age, and choose to put on video activities that they engage in privately. How doubly irresponsible that these consenting adults seek treatment for any infections they come across in the course of their activities.

I tend to think that this has little to do with irresponsibility and much more to do with forcing one’s personal beliefs on others. I am proudly pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, and pro-barebacking. Woof :-)

  8. ericthewriter says:

    re: condom vs bareback porn

i don’t understand how anyone can seek to criminalize the documentation of legal, adult consensual behavior. didn’t the california AG decline to prosecute such a thing a few years ago?
thank heavens TIM doesn’t shoot in los angeles.

like lawrence o’donnell pointed out months ago, bareback porn is a free-market response, so republicans must be in favor of it and against gov’t intrusion into and regulation of private business practices.

  9. Gulfguy says:

Men have been sharing their seed since times immemorial and will continue to do so and if they take good care of themselves (especially regarding nutrition and supplements) will not come down with aids. Keep up the good work Max and Treasure Island!

  10. CLK says:

I love when people compare HIV and AIDS to diabetes, a disease that can cause you to lose your arms and legs. Totally benign.

Bareback porn is irresponsible because it sends the wrong message to young gay men. Gay sex isn’t taught in Sex Ed in school, so young gays learn about sex from porn. Showing bareback sex on screen inadvertently sends the message to young gays that casual, unprotected sex has no consequences.

    • Max Sohl says:

I think our young gay men have minds of their own and they can decide for themselves what they do in their personal sex lives.
I suppose based on your logic straight porn is responsible for unwanted pregnancies?
And what do we do with gay porn that was made before 1982?
Shall we put it in a pile in the back yard and burn it?
Even in 2012 the safe sex message is still blasted down our throats.
Watch MTV or RuPaul’s Drag Race for more than 5 minutes.
